It rarely snows in Houston so whenever it does the entire city gets very excited. City officials prepare for possible disasters, many work places declare a snow day and schools close. The reason for some panic is because the city of Houston is not able to manage snow conditions like other cities. Also, most Houston drivers drive terribly as is (I almost got forced off the road today!) and almost all the drivers lack snow driving skills and techniques.
The last time I can remember snow in Houston was on Christmas Eve of 2004. It was wonderful but sadly I was working during the short period of snowfall. After I went home I got to play by myself with what little snow I could find on my parent's car. Last year it snowed on December 10th 2008 but I was at school and just finished working out at the rec center only to start working diligently on my project inside the library.
Finally! This year it snowed nearly the whole day on Friday December 4th. It was such a beautiful sight to see snow fall so heavily. It was a winter wonderland that everyone in Houston enjoyed. The snowfall was consistent and by around 1pm you could see extremely large flakes collect on the ground. I was at work but got off early in time to romp in the snow. For the first time in my life I had the opportunity to build a snowman. I admit, it is much more difficult than I thought; which reminds me, I should visit the gym very soon.
Hopefully, the next time it snows I will have someone very special to share the experience with and we can build a snowman together.
Here is an excerpt from The Sun, Community news:
Before Friday morning, the earliest snowfall on record happened just last year, when Houston saw .03 inches of snow on Dec. 10.
The most snowfall on record for our Gulf coast city was 20 inches that fell in over two days, Feb. 14 and 15 in 1895.
Snowman photos!

It looks huge!
Cool mowhawk.
I got tired so I was only able to build it as high as my knee. I think I have frost bite on my pinkie fingers.
